Logan is a city in Logan County, West Virginia, along the Guyandotte River. The population was 1,630 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Logan CountyGR6.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.3 km (1.3 mi). 3.0 km (1.2 mi) of it is land and 0.3 km (0.1 mi) of it (7.94%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,630 people, 750 households, and 423 families residing in the city. The population density was 542.5/km (1,403.5/mi). There were 965 housing units at an average density of 321.2/km (830.9/mi). The racial makeup of the city was 92.52% White, 4.79% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.61% Asian, 0.06% from other races, and 1.72% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.80% of the population.

There were 750 households out of which 20.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.3% were married couples living together, 13.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 43.6% were non-families. 40.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.08 and the average family size was 2.78.
